In his lifetime Lala Deen Dayal must have taken many thousands of portraits; only a small part of both his records and his splendid work in this area have survived.
When we consider today, the modern approach to this important branch of photography and the equipment available to shoot a portrait, we can only gaze in wonder and admiration at the work of this "Doyen of Indian Photography"; the soft appealing treatment, the true to life photographs, often with a three dimensional effect, were indeed his forte.
Can you look at these without saying "Oh I wish I could be photographed like that!"
